A tramp who scavenged for cans and old sandwiches for 40 years has died leaving behind a secret fortune worth nearly £1million.
Known as Tin-Can-Curt, Curt Degerman, 60, had been known around his home town of Skelleftea, in northern Sweden, as a harmless eccentric who picked up tins to sell for pennies to shopkeepers and a recycling plant.
However, what neither his family nor those in the town knew was that he then used the money to buy stocks and shares.
For despite appearances to the contrary, Mr Degerman was for 40 years actually a dedicated player of the financial markets.
As well as eating left-over food from bins and wearing the same filthy blue anorak, Mr Degerman would regularly study the financial pages of newspapers in the town’s public library every day.
‘He went to the library every day because he didn’t buy newspapers. There he read [Swedish business daily] Dagens Industri,’ his cousin told local media at the time of his death.
‘He knew the stock market inside out.’
It was thanks to his shrewd decisions that he amassed his fortune.
It was only after he died of a heart attack that his relatives found he had left behind shares worth more than £731,000 in a Swiss bank account.
In addition he left gold bars worth £250,000 as well as £275 of loose change at his home.
The closet millionaire was described by relatives as a ‘very clever’ child who had dropped out of school after a personal crisis.
His fortune came to light after a row developed following his death.
Mr Degerman had made a will leaving his entire fortune to one cousin who visited him during the months leading up to his death.
But another cousin who believed his father was entitled to a slice of the fortune contested the will when the full extent of the estate emerged.
Under Swedish inheritance law the uncle, whose name has not been made public, held the legal right to inherit his nephew’s riches.
The two cousins eventually settled out of court this week, agreeing to split the fortune.
Neither would reveal the details of the settlement but both said that they were ‘satisfied’ with the outcome.

“The Power Of Conversational Hypnosis” is the number one best-selling hypnosis course in the world and Igor Ledochowski’s best selling product.
This program is a full audio home study course. Also full transcripts of every lesson are available for download.
By the time you finish the program you’ll have the skills to start using covert hypnosis in your everyday conversations in order to become more powerful, influential and respected.
If you are familiar with “The Money in Your Mind” training you know how your mind can
consciously and subconsciously release an impressive potential in people including yourself.
In fact, some of the lessons presented here are the basic principles Igor taught in the Conversational Hypnosis course.
During several years, Igor studied and perfected a whole list of techniques used by Dr. Milton Erickson – considered the leading authority on covert hypnosis.
He coached hypnotherapists in advanced skills, working at the London College of Clinical Hypnosis and the Hypnotherapy Association.
Together with Clifford Mee, they developed the Power of Conversational Hypnosis.
Their self-study course made these techniques available to the general public for the first time.
They showed how hypnosis can be taught to average people with simple exercises.
All you have to do is train your unconscious mind so it becomes automatic to use covert hypnosis
in any situation to “read” people mind like an open book, create instant rapport to influence, ethically control and persuade others.
So what is “Conversational Hypnosis”, how you can use it and what’s really possible for you to achieve with it.
The field of hypnosis can be broadly divided up into two major types of hypnosis.
The first is what is generally called “Direct” hypnosis and it’s what most people will think
of when you talk to them about hypnosis.
In Direct hypnosis it’s completely clear what’s happening.
It’s what happens in a Stage Hypnotist’s show or with conventional hypnotherapy where someone goes to
a hypnotist for help to stop smoking or help reduce their weight, for example.
The hypnotist will openly put the subject into a trance and they will then go on to give
the subject some specific suggestions or instructions.
The other type of hypnosis is what’s known as “Indirect” hypnosis.
With Indirect hypnosis, what’s happening is much less obvious.
The hypnotist will still put the subject into a trance, but it won’t be the kind of
trance where the subject closes their eyes and responds directly to the hypnotist.
In most cases, the subject will be completely unaware that they are being hypnotized.
“Conversational Hypnosis” is a form of indirect hypnosis.
It’s also sometimes referred to as “Covert” hypnosis.
Put simply, Conversational Hypnosis is all about knowing how to put someone into a trance in a regular conversation.
Then using that trance state to achieve the outcome or purpose that you desire.
And the real beauty of it is that the other person will be completely unaware of
what you’re doing.
Now, it’s important to understand that Conversational Hypnosis still follows the
same principles as the more regular kind of direct hypnosis.
So understanding the fundamental principles that underpin all hypnotic processes is essential
to understanding and mastering Conversational Hypnosis.
The big difference is that with Conversational Hypnosis, the subject will appear to be in a
normal state of consciousness.
To the untrained observer all that’s happening is a regular conversation between two people.
What hypnosis is and what it is not.
Many people have this huge misconception about hypnosis.
Films, the media, books, articles have created this misconception of “power” in hypnosis.
The idea that you can exert COMPLETE control of another human being.
Personally, I think it’s a good thing that this is NOT possible.
You see, in hypnosis you are negotiating with someone’s unconscious mind.
And the unconscious mind is the place where people’s ethics and moral code is really stored.
In hypnosis you’ll never get someone to break their ethical code.
But “Hold on” you’ll say, “I saw a stage show and all these people were running around
acting like chickens and doing all sorts of crazy things. Surely the hypnotist had complete control?”
Well, yes and no.
You see a stage hypnotist’s job is to create the illusion of control. Think about the very
first thing a stage hypnotist does.
He invites people to volunteer and come up on stage.
So who’s going to volunteer to do that?
The person who doesn’t want to act like a chicken? Of course not!
The people who do volunteer are the people who want to be exhibitionists, who want to show off.
Of course, on one level they are having the experience the hypnotist is suggesting but it’s
not in any way conflicting with their own moral code.
Now, does this mean that hypnosis can’t help you persuade people to do what you want?
Igor Ledochowski & David A. Blender will explore the mysterious power of the mind.
You will discover how people have used this power to achieve what many thought to be impossible.
Today, you will meet some fascinating characters, both modern day and historical figures that used the power of their minds to achieve truly amazing feats. There is the Iceman: who can withstand intense sub-zero temperatures without frostbite, hypothermia or even pain!
You’ll meet geniuses like Thomas Edison, and Nobel Prize winners like Einstein and Friedrich Kekule, all of whom trained their minds to find answers to impossible problems – and were rewarded with success and Nobel prizes for their achievements!
You’ll also hear about Dale Hitchman, who was the first person to go through a full surgical operation without any drugs – he used hypnosis and the power of the mind to eliminate the pain! You will discover that the mind is without question the most powerful tool that we possess.
